Route Overview

  1. Start at the Church Lych Gate
Turn right onto Slack Lane and walk to the junction with Raven Lane.
  2. Cross the Road & Enter the Fields
Cross the road and turn right. Look for a stile on your left a short distance along Raven Lane. Climb over and cross the field towards a wooded area surrounding a lake.
  3. Follow the Woodland Path
Walk along the left-hand side of the plantation until you reach a broad track at the base of an old colliery spoil heap. Turn left.
  4. Continue to the Railway Bridge
Follow the track until you arrive at an old brick railway bridge. On the left, you will see a ramped path—walk up the ramp to reach the road, Sandybridge Lane.
  5. Arrive at Shafton Green
Turn right and walk downhill towards The Singing Man pub, which will be on your right. Opposite the pub is Shafton Green.
  6. Walk Through Shafton Green to Ash Mount
Walk onto the Green and continue to the far end, where a lane leads to Greenside Farm. Just before the farm entrance, turn left onto Ash Mount. You will find a wooden stile at the end of the short lane.
  7. Cross the Fields & Hemp Dike
Climb over the stile and follow the downhill field path. Pass through a gate and over another stile at the bottom of the hill, where you will cross Hemp Dike.
  8. Return to Felkirk Church
Continue straight on an uphill path between trees and shrubs. After approximately 400 metres, look for a stile on your left. Climb over and cross the broad field to the houses on Slack Lane. At Slack Lane, turn right and return to the Lych Gate.
